Bryan Moon Sold at Auction Prices

Bryan Moon was born in Southampton, in the United Kingdom, and it was quickly apparent that Bryan was born with great artistic talent; he graduated with a National Diploma in Design from the Exeter and Southampton Colleges of Art. He was also awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in the National Youth Art Competition for his art, prints and posters, which was sponsored by Her Majesty the Queen. After graduation, Bryan became a technical artist for Vickers Limited and ascended the corporate ladder, eventually to become advertising Director of the British Aircraft Corporation. He emigrated to the United States with his wife and two sons in 1966 and is now an American citizen.

In America, Bryan Moon continued his career in the aircraft industry, and eventually served as Corporate Vice President of North West Airlines. He took early retirement in 1987 to pursue his interest in exploration and art, prints and posters. His exploration trips since then have included visits to the North Pole, the South Pole and the Antarctic, and a 2,000 mile trans-Pacific crossing in a small sail boat to Pitcairn Island, where he lived with 45 original descendants of the "Bounty" mutineers and retrieved a section of ballast from the sunken vessel. He also organised and led the first US Expedition to China in search of lost Doolittle B25 bombers. The expedition identified the positions of five missing aircraft and retrieved the remains of three.

Bryan Moon has also written, produced and directed a number of plays, and has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey television show! His art, prints and posters hangs in many museums and galleries across the world, including the Army & Navy Club in Washington DC and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs

        Oct. 07, 2017

Doolittle Raid Print Signed by Doolittle and Raiders

        Est: $2,000 - $3,000

Signed print commemorating the 50th anniversary of the historic 1942 World War II Doolittle Raid, America's first retaliation against Japan after Pearl Harbor. The idea for the attack originated with President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was planned and led by Jimmy Doolittle, a famous military test pilot and aeronautical engineer. The 28 x 30" print, titled "The Doolittle Raiders by Bryan Moon" at the top, is framed in silver and matted in white. It is signed by Commander James "Jimmy" Doolittle, Lieutenant Richard E. Cole, his co-pilot, and by Lieutenant Henry A. Potter, the navigator - all were surviving members of the lead bomber. The artist, Bryan Moon, also included his signature. This lot also includes a small golden metal section from a Doolittle Raiders bomber plane which crashed in China on April 18, 1942. The piece depicts one of the low-flying B-25 bomber planes used by American pilots during the air raid over Tokyo and Honshu. The Raiders flew at low altitudes close to the sea to avoid detection. The aircraft is dramatically shown hovering over a dark ocean, ready to attack Japan. These items provided directly by Mr. Powers' son, expert public speaker on the U-2 Incident and Cold War History, Francis Gary Powers Jr.
