STUDIO DI COLORE Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 137,5 x 55 cm. Rechts unten signiert „C Monti“, verso auf Rahmen betitelt, Datierung „1957“ und mit handgeschriebenem Etikett versehen. In breiten Rahmen. In Frontalsicht das Portrait einer jungen Frau mit schwarzen Haaren, roten Lippen und tiefblauen Augen, die seitlich aus dem Bild herausblicken. Sie steht seitlich ganz ruhig da und hebt ihren rechten Arm auf, um Ihre Kopfbedeckung an den Haaren zu befestigen, vor gelb-grünem Hintergrund. Malerei in raschem Pinselduktus bei meist breitem, teils pastosem Farbauftrag und leuchtender Farbpalette. Monti reiste schon in jungen Jahren nach Paris, wo er zwischen 1906 und 1908 in den Kreisen der impressionistischen und postimpressionistischen Maler verkehrte und Museen besuchte, wo er die großen alten und modernen Meister kennenlernte. Er zog in 1912 nach Mailand um und begann 1915 seine Tätigkeit als Maler in dem eröffneten Atelier. In der Nachkriegszeit debütiert er 1920 auf der Biennale von Venedig, zu der er bis 1950 immer wieder eingeladen wurde. Von Anfang an war er eng mit der Gruppe Novecento verbunden, der er jedoch nie offiziell beitrat: Er nahm jedoch an der Ausstellung der Gruppe im Jahr 1926 teil. Seine malerische Entwicklung setzte sich bis zum Ende fort, indem er vom anfänglichen Pointillismus zu einem freieren Malstil überging, der ohne Zeichnung ausgeführt wurde, auf der Welle des Eindrucks, um sich mutig und bewusst mit neuen Tendenzen auseinanderzusetzen, in einer Art figurativ-informellem Stil. In einem rötlich-braunen Innenraum sitzend eine junge nackte Frau mit kurzen braunen Haaren, roten Lippen und einem schwarzen dünnen Band um ihren Hals. Sie sitzt auf einem türkisfarbenem Bettbezug, hat den linken Fuß auf den Boden gestellt, während sie halb auf ihrem rechten Unterschenkel sitzt. Nachdenklich hat sie ihren Kopf zur Seite nach unten gewandt. Links hinter ihr ein ovaler Spiegel, in dem sich ein Ausschnitt ihres Oberkörpers und ihres hellen rechten Oberarms widerspiegeln. Unter dem Spiegel eine kleine Konsole, auf der sich wohl rosafarbene Utensilien und eine rote Blüte wiederfinden. Malerei in raschem Pinselduktus bei meist breitem, teils pastosem Farbauftrag.
