      DOMENICO MONTAGU (Italy, ?-1750). "Vedute de Roma. Set of seven engravings on paper. Signed and located. Some folds, dirt, humidity. Size: 16 x 27 cm (engravings); 24,5 x 35 cm (paper). Domenico Montagu was an Italian vedutista and engraver of architectural themes, active in Rome around 1750. Montagu collaborated extensively on the engravings for the main works designed by Jean Barbault. He was, like Barbault, very close to Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who influenced him and who also worked with the publisher Bouchard et Gravier. Paul Kristeller cites him along with Felice Polanzani, Antonio Capellan and Francesco Barbazza among the engravers with whom this influence is most evident.

Including famous antique monuments such as the Archs of Septimius Severus, Constantine and Janus, and the Circus Maximus, Aqua Claudia and Temple of Minerva Medica. - Prov.
