Di li a poco entrerà in contatto con Livio Odescalchi (Como, 1652 - Roma, 1713), colto collezionista d'arte e uno tra i più importanti personaggi nella Roma di quel tempo. E proprio per il principe, che per almeno un ventennio sarà suo mecenate, il Monnot realizzerà molte tra le opere più significative del suo soggiorno capitolino. È il 1693 quando per Livio plasma cinque rilievi in terracotta (uno datato e firmato), oggi al Louvre, con scene mitologiche per le basi di alcune sculture della sua collezione privata. Contemporaneamente ad altri lavori, nel 1697 abbozza un modello per il monumento funebre a Innocenzo XI per volere del nipote del pontefice, Livio Odescalchi - ne seguirà poi un secondo molto prossimo all'opera in marmo del 1700, impresa nella quale fu impegnato anche Carlo Maratta. Molteplici inoltre le opere destinate all'uso privato, come il ritratto dello stesso principe firmato e datato 1695 e sempre di quegli anni una serie di rilievi: la Sacra famiglia in terracotta (Boston) e la versione marmorea al Museo di Berlino, e ancora l'Ecce Homo firmato, oggi in Pinacoteca a Bologna e altri lavori risultanti da almeno due inventari del 1713 e del 1733 (data di morte del Monnot), con di nuovo protagonista il nobile romano. E proprio a questo corpus che appartiene anche l'importante rilievo in terracotta qui presentato (A. Bacchi, Scultura del '600 a Roma, a cura di A. Bacchi e S. Zanuso, Milano 1996, tav. 639, p. 827 e O. Ferrari, S. Papaldo, Le sculture del Seicento a Roma, Roma 1999, p. 532), con Livio Odescalchi che riceve Innocenzo XII a Palo (circa 1699), modello che trova puntuale riscontro nel marmo con medesimo episodio (fig. 1), oggi in collezione Aldobrandini (Bacchi, op. citata, tav. 640).       PIERRE ÉTIENNE MONNOT (1657-1733) D’APRES Saint Pierre et Saint Paul Importante paire de sculptures en bronze doré, marque du fondeur CHIURAZZI NAPOLI. Socle en marbre. Les ateliers Chiurazzi étaient actifs à  Naples entre 1860 et 1920. Haut. : 73 cm et Haut. 70 cm L'importante entreprise sculpturale qui a inauguré le XVIIIème siècle à  Rome a été la réalisation des statues colossales des apà´tres pour les douze niches monumentales de la basilique de Saint Jean de Latran. Les statues ont été exécutées avant 1718 par les sculpteurs les plus importants de l'époque à  Rome. Parmi ces sculpteurs c’est à  Pierre-Étienne Monnot que l'on doit saint Pierre et saint Paul dont nous présentons les modèles.
