        Momaday, Alfred (Haun Toa) (American/Kiowa Indian, 1913-1981), Three Dancers, 1947, tempera and ink on heavy cream colored paper, signed, dated and annotated N. Mex. on the feather in the lower right corner, image size 11.25 x 21.5 inches, full sheet 17.75 x 26.25 inches, matted and framed 24 x 32 inches. A very early work. Momaday lived in New Mexico from 1947, where he was the principal and art teacher at the Jemez Pueblo Day School, of the Bureau of Indian Affairs of the Department of Interior. His son, N. Scott Momaday, was the first Native American to win a Pulitzer Prize for literature.

        Alfred Morris (Haun Toa) Momaday (1913 - 1981) "Clan Brothers" Gouache on Paper. Momaday, whose Indian name was Haun Toa, meaning War Lance, was the son of Kiowa Indian parents. Al was one of the most accomplished of Native American artists famous for his work and his teaching particularly at the Jemez Pueblo where his program of arts and crafts brought international recognition. His works can be seen in the Gilcrease Museum, Museum of the American Indian and the Philbrook.
