          Galeazzo Mondella, called Moderno (1467-1528), The Flagellation of Christ, bronze-gilt plaquette, Christ tied to a column whipped by his tormentors and with an array of soldiers and men behind, one on horseback; behind the column are twin arches, the right hand one partly in ruins, 134 x 94mm (Molinier 170; Bange 453; Kress 134, fig. 171; Lewis 42 and pl. 2; Scaglia V.37), very fine cast in high relief (probably later 16th or early 17th century) with three spots of lead solder on the reverse Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection [inventory number 121 in red on reverse]; and ex Sotheby’s Paris, 23 June 2004, lot 14. This cast differs from the original silver parcel-gilt example in the KHM Vienna (Planiscig (1924), 408) which is signed on the base of the column, bears more refined chasing and is of slightly larger dimensions (138 x 102mm).
