    (Warendorf 1800 - The Hague 1884) Hauling in the catch on a calm day Signed l.l. on the stem Oil on canvas, 90.4 x 76.2 cm Provenance: - Kunsthandel Constant Gabriëls, The Hague - Private collection, The Netherlands N.B.: Johannes Mock began his career as an officer in the German army and around 1927 the squire traded his army rank for an artistic career. Mock established himself in The Hague, where he studied under the renowned landscape painter Hendrikus van de Sande Bakhuyzen (1838-1932). Mock started by painting landscapes with cattle, but soon decided to concentrate on painting marines, harbours and water-filled cityscapes.
