Gerald "Gerry" Mitchell was born December 25, 1954 in Sedalia, North Carolina but spent most of his life in Charlottesville, VA. He earned his Bachelor's Degree of Art from Virginia Commonwealth University, and his Master's degree from Yale. He was best known for his colorful and inspiring collages, and often donated the proceeds from the sale of his art to groups such as the AIDS Support Group, the University of Virginia Cancer Center, and the Kosovo Refugees. His love of travel took him abroad to New Zealand and Madrid, Spain, where he taught English, and influenced his artistic style. He spent the last years of his life in Charlottesville, VA. where he died in 2011.
