      Charles Davis Mitchell (American 1887 - 1940) Graphite drawing on paper, Illustration for Cosmopolitan Magazine, mounted on original layout board, with magazine stamp in the margin dated 7/7/27. Signed lower center. Gilt wood frame, glazed. 6.5 lbs Charles D. Mitchell came of age at the same time as such sophisticated magazine illustrators as F.R. Gruger, Henry Raleigh, F.C. Yohn and John R. Neill. He began contributing to The Saturday Evening Post in 1907, and drew for many other magazines including The Delineator, Good Housekeeping, Ladies' Home Journal and McCall's. He was especially in demand for his spirited drawings of elegant young women and handsome men, often languishing in chairs or on sofas and engaged in ardent conversation. Measurements: Approx. drawing sheet 13.25 x 27.125 inches; frame 18.75 x 30.75 inches Condition: Drawing in very good apparent condition, not removed from frame. Some smudges, notations, pinholes, and chipping to layout board. Frame has some display wear. Domestic Shipping: $100
