JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Market of Vilanova". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower margin.

    Est: €26,000 - €28,000

JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Market of Vilanova". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower margin. Measurements: 93 x 74 cm; 113 x 94 cm (frame). Under the whitewashed porch of a Romanesque architecture a lively market scene unfolds. The burst of vibrant colors contrasts with the whiteness of the arches that welcome the human group. In the foreground, large wicker baskets of potatoes and lettuce are lined up next to the greengrocers and the children who help them fill their shopping bags. However, we sense more than what we see, since the great protagonist here is the joint agitation, the spontaneous vitality of the sum of gestures, printed dresses, products of the earth and silhouettes that, towards the background, become pure chromatic symphony. "I only want my works to gladden the heart and flood the eyes and soul with light". This is how Mir summed up his manifesto as a painter. Color and light meant everything to the Barcelona painter, and with them he constructed a personal language with which he created a surprisingly modern work. This is evident in our painting in a privileged way. Joaquim Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi in Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. His style was also influenced by the School of Olot, his father's hometown. He soon felt uncomfortable with the official teaching, anchored in a conception of realist painting, so in 1893 he founded together with other colleagues (Nonell, Canals, Pichot, Vallmitjana and Gual) the "Colla del Safrà", to investigate together in the pictorial initiatives of the end of the century. The name came from the saffron and ochre tones they used in their paintings, with which they tried to capture the Mediterranean luminosity and reject the coldness of the greys and blues of the French impressionists. Nevertheless, they imitated the Impressionists in their taste for painting outdoors, capturing there the environments and types they saw. In 1896 they even participated as a group in the III Exhibition of Fine Arts and Artistic Industries, to which Mir presented two works that give us a clear idea of the ideals of the group: "La huerta del rector" and "El vendedor de naranjas". Also, since 1897 he frequented the artistic environment of "Els Quatre Gats", where all the artists who knew the European avant-garde met, which helped him to mature in the compositional study of landscapes with figures in different planes of depth. From this period are "Slopes of Montjuic" (1897) and "The Cathedral of the Poor" (1898), the two masterpieces of his youth. In these years he took part in the Fine Arts Exhibitions of Barcelona, in their editions of 1894, 1896 and 1898. Winner of a second medal at the Madrid Exhibition of 1899, that same year he moved to the capital in order to compete for a scholarship in Rome. When he was unsuccessful, he went with Santiago Rusiñol to Mallorca, on a trip that would be a definitive turning point in his career. Mir was dazzled by the Mallorcan landscape, specifically by Sa Calobra, which was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him. From then on, the artist deployed a whole combination of impossible colors, the result of his personal interpretation of the majestic nature of the island. The brushstrokes became longer and became stains that almost made objects and spatial references disappear. In 1901 he exhibited the fruit of this first Mallorcan stage individually at the Sala Parés in Barcelona, and again obtained a second medal at the National Exhibition. After a period of illness that forced him to move to Reus, in 1907 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona. Since then, installed in Camp de Tarragona, he will not move from the landscape genre, but now the surrounding villages will be the protagonists of his painting. He will paint houses, churches, orchards, people, flowering almond trees, farmyards... Intranscendent themes that are more and more adjusted to the reality of nature, since they only wanted to reflect his love for his land and his constant search for changes in light. His style will no longer be as expressive as that of Mallorca, although the bold use of color and stain remains. Already consolidated as an outstanding figure of the Catalan scene, he acquired definitive national recognition in 1917, when he was awarded the National Prize of Fine Arts. Four years later he married and settled permanently in Vilanova i la Geltrú. His successes followed one after the other, and in 1929 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition in Barcelona. The following year he won the medal of honor at the National Exhibition in Madrid, an award he had been pursuing since 1922. Although he was mainly a native painter, he had solo and group exhibitions in Washington, Paris, Pittsburg, New York, Philadelphia, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Venice. Mir is today considered the most outstanding representative of Spanish post-impressionist landscape painting. His work is preserved in the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, among many others.

JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Landscapes". Oil on canvas. Attached certificate issued by Don Marcial Barrachina Ramoneda. Presents sticker on the back of Barrachina and Ramoneda. It has a carved wooden frame with gilded ornamentation. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 39 x 46 cm; 66,5 x 74,5 cm (frame). This work is characteristic of the hedonistic and audacious language of Joaquim Mir in his interpretation of painting. He reduces it to its basic elements through an excellent handling of light and color, but at the same time he avoids pure abstraction, always suggesting the pulse that beats beneath the forms. Thus, the architectures are flamboyant, and the forms are pure chromatic agitation and the changing lights of the day are conjugated in symphonic cadences. In this work Mir demonstrates his absolute mastery of the technique and the capture of the landscape, in an image in which he manages to synthesize the naturalistic representation, the personal expression and the pictorial order. We see a sensitive brushstroke, which explores the space and gives it form and entity, creating volumes, lights and shadows, defining an atmosphere captured with great lyricism. Through a purely personal language, Mir synthesizes the basic elements of representation and expressiveness of painting, as can be seen in the intensity of his colors or in the rigor of his compositional structure. JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET, (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Faenando", Mollet. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner.

    Est: €100,000 - €120,000

JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET, (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Faenando", Mollet. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 166 x 202 cm; 174 x 210 cm (frame). Joaquim Mir, one of the great innovators of the Spanish landscape, captures in Faenando a scene of rural work in which the color and the light become absolute protagonists. With an energetic brushstroke and a vibrant palette, the artist synthesizes the scene with a compositional structure that gives dynamism to the representation. The midday light floods the canvas and is reflected in the warm tones of the earth and the moving figures, while the vibrant blue sky unifies the composition into a whole of great expressive force. Mir's stroke, loose and spontaneous, seems to dissolve the forms in a chromatic harmony of clear post-impressionist roots, but with an entirely personal conception. His particular way of understanding the landscape, beyond mere representation, brings him closer to an almost lyrical vision of the rural world, where nature and man merge in a dance of color and light. In this work, the fragmented brushstroke and the superimposition of planes reinforce the sensation of vital effervescence, elevating the daily scene to an almost magical dimension. Faenando is, in short, a masterful example of Mir's unique pictorial language, in which landscape and human activity become the expression of a vibrant and fully modern sensibility. Joaquim Mir Trinxet is considered one of the greatest exponents of Spanish post-impressionist landscape painting and one of the most outstanding figures of Catalan art in the early 20th century. His training at the San Jordi School of Fine Arts and his link with the Colla del Safrà (a group of Catalan artists who experimented with color and light) marked the beginning of an innovative career. At the end of the 19th century, his time in Madrid and his close relationship with Barcelona's modernism, through circles such as Els Quatre Gats, consolidated his artistic language, although his true transformation came with his stay in Mallorca, where he discovered a landscape that would forever change his way of painting. His work was recognized with numerous awards, including the First Medal at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona (1907), the National Prize of Fine Arts (1917) and the Medal of Honor at the National Exhibition in Madrid (1930), a prize he had been pursuing for years. Although he focused his production in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, his work transcended borders, being exhibited in cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Washington, New York and Buenos Aires. Today, his legacy can be found in some of the most prestigious collections in Spain and the world, with works in the Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña (MNAC), the Museo del Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo Reina Sofía, among others. His ability to transform landscape into a sensory experience makes him an essential figure in modern Spanish painting.

Attached certificate of authenticity issued by Marçal Barrachina. Measurements: 51 x 69 cm; 78 x 96 cm (frame). "I only want my works to gladden the heart and flood the eyes and soul with light". Thus Mir summarized in 1928 his manifesto as a painter, totally identifiable in the work on tender. Color and light meant everything to the Barcelona painter, and with them he constructed a personal language with which he created a surprisingly modern work, always based on a new vision of nature. In this luminous work Mir demonstrates his absolute mastery of the technique and the capture of the landscape, in an image immortalized from the castle of Sant Pere de Ribes (a town bordering Vilanova i la Geltrú where the painter lived) in which he manages to synthesize the naturalistic representation, the personal expression and the pictorial order. JOAQUIN MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Landscape of l'Aleixar", 1906. Oil on canvas glued to board. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 21 x 33 cm; 45 x 57 cm (frame). The paintings of Joaquim Mir made in l'Aleixar, a small village in the region of Baix Camp, reflect a key moment in the evolution of his style. L'Aleixar and its surroundings were an important source of inspiration for Mir between 1905 and 1906, when he developed some of his most daring works. It was one of his most creative periods. In this painting we see how he transforms the vegetation of the Camp de Tarragona into a fiery symphony of bright yellows and emerald greens competing with the red of the flowers and the ochre of the earth. The sky is reduced to wispy clouds that pierce the blue with bursts of white. The artist constructs the landscape through light and color, subsuming them in a stroke so energetic that it seems to breathe movement into the composition. The work he did in the Camp de Tarragona is highlighted by critics as being of extraordinary originality. Currently, it is one of his most prized series. His language of this period is expressed through stains of pure color, with an arrhythmic and unrhythmic brushstroke. Through a purely personal language, Mir synthesizes the basic elements of a landscape, replacing the objective representation by the soulful expression that reflects the heartbeat of nature. Joaquim Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi in Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. His style was also influenced by the School of Olot, his father's hometown. JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Vall del Madriu", 1933. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Painted during the campaign of Andorra (1932-34). Similar works catalogued in "Joaquim Mir a Andorra", by Francesc Miralles. Measurements: 38 x 36 cm; 52 x 50 cm (frame). Joaquim Mir visited Andorra in 1932, 1933 and 1934. He went out to paint "a plein air", planting his easel in the most attractive meadows to his photogenic look, being interested especially in the shades that the light prints in different hours of the day. The painting that we show here is part of this group of Andorran works, of which the Sala Parés realized an exhibition in the year 1934 and Francesc Miralles gathered in a study on the artist. The "Vall de Madriu" is known for its lush forests and pristine atmosphere, which were a source of inspiration for Mir. The great Catalan landscape painter transforms the high mountain landscape into a pure symphony of vibrant colors, loose brushstrokes and a perspective that borders on the abstract, seeking to capture the sensory essence of the landscape rather than its literal representation. It also reflects the monumental serenity of the Andorran valley, a natural space that at the time was practically untouched, far from the hustle and bustle. The work "Vall del Madriu" is an outstanding example of Mir's artistic evolution towards his last period, at the peak of his maturity, when the poetic and emotional perspective of the environment to the detriment of realism reaches a high level. Joaquim Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi in Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. His style was also influenced by the School of Olot, his father's hometown. Between 1906 and 1914 the painter Joaquim Mir isolated himself in the Camp de Tarragona, resulting in the most fruitful period of the painter, who won first medal at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1907 and held an important exhibition at the gallery of Fayanç Catalá in the same city in 1909. From that moment on, the artist decided to live in the countryside, immersed in the landscape. In the work presented here, Joaquim Mir offers us a magnificent landscape in which he connects with the light and the earth in fullness, approaching abstraction from his vision of nature. To do so, he employs a very quickly resolved workmanship, based on the use of dark colors, in which the painter's intention is to capture a certain moment of light. Joaquín Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi in Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. In 1896 they came to participate as a group in the III Exhibition of Fine Arts and Artistic Industries, to which Mir presented two works that give us a clear idea of the ideals of the group: "La huerta del rector" and "El vendedor de naranjas". Since then, settled in Camp de Tarragona, he would not move from the landscape genre, but now the surrounding villages would be the protagonists of his painting. Already consolidated as an outstanding figure of the Catalan panorama, he acquired the definitive national recognition in 1917, when he was awarded the National Prize of Fine Arts.

JOAQUIN MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Barques al sol". Oil on canvas. Attached study by Doña Teresa Campas and certificate of authenticity issued by Miralles. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Measurements: 55.3 x 60.3 cm; 82 x 87 cm (frame). This work is characteristic of Joaquim Mir's hedonistic and audacious language in his interpretation of painting. He reduces it to its basic elements through an excellent handling of light and color, but at the same time he avoids pure abstraction, always suggesting the pulse that beats beneath the forms. Thus, the forms are flaming, pure chromatic agitation and the changing lights of the day are conjugated in symphonic cadences. Joaquim Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi in Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. JOAQUIN MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Landscape of l'Aleixar", 1906. Oil on canvas glued to board. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 21 x 33 cm; 30 x 41 cm (frame). This work is the result of one of the most creative stages of Joaquín Mir, that of the Camp de Tarragona. It portrays a landscape of this area, in l'Aleixar, building it through light and color, reflecting the land in all its fullness. The work he did in the Camp de Tarragona is highlighted by critics as extraordinarily original. His language of this period is expressed through stains of pure color, the vertical rhythm of the brushstroke, and at the same time shows a notable reduction in the pictorial paste. "El port de Barcelona", ca. 1898. Oil on sackcloth. Signed in the lower right corner. Attached certificate issued by Joan Campamà. Measurements: 75 x 75 cm. The port view changes here into a dreamy place. Long brushstrokes and superimposed layers of glaucous and verdemar colours blur the boats but without making them disappear, giving them a dreamlike texture that spreads over the marina and the uncertain coast, enveloping us with its combination of textures and impossible ranges. In this urban view dating from the late 19th century, Joaquim Mir embarks on unexplored paths in atmospheric capture, a work he was carrying out at the same time in the Mallorcan landscape. Joaquín Mir studied at the San Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona and in the studio of the painter Luis Graner. His style was also influenced by the School of Olot, his father's home town. In 1893 he formed the "Colla del Safrà" together with artists such as Isidro Nonell, Ricard Canals and Ramon Pichot, and in the last years of the century he was associated with the artistic environment of "Els Quatre Gats". He completed his training in 1895, when he spent some time in Madrid copying works by Velázquez. During these years he took part in the Fine Arts Exhibitions in Barcelona in 1894, 1896 and 1898. Winner of a second medal at the Madrid Exhibition of 1899, that same year he moved to the capital with the aim of applying for a scholarship in Rome. When he was unsuccessful, he went with Santiago Rusiñol to Mallorca, a trip that was to be a definitive turning point in his career. Mir was dazzled by the Mallorcan landscape, particularly that of Sa Calobra, which was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him. In 1901 he held a solo exhibition of the fruit of this first Mallorcan period at the Sala Parés in Barcelona, and once again won a second medal at the National Exhibition. After a period of illness that forced him to move to Reus, in 1907 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona. Already established as a leading figure on the Catalan scene, he gained definitive national recognition in 1917, when he was awarded the National Prize for Fine Arts. Four years later he married and settled permanently in Vilanova i la Geltrú. His successes followed one after the other, and in 1929 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition in Barcelona. He soon felt uncomfortable with the official teaching, which was anchored in a conception of realist painting, and so in 1893 he founded the "Colla del Safrà" (Safrà Group) with other colleagues to explore together the pictorial initiatives of the end of the century. In 1896 they even participated as a group in the 3rd Exhibition of Fine Arts and Artistic Industries, to which Mir submitted two works: "La huerta del rector" ("The Rector's Vegetable Garden") and "El vendedor de naranjas" ("The Orange Seller"). From 1897 he also frequented the artistic environment of "Els Quatre Gats", which helped him to mature in the compositional study of landscapes with figures in different planes of depth. Mir was dazzled by the Mallorcan landscape, which was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him. From then on, the artist deployed a whole combination of impossible colours, the result of his personal interpretation of the island's majestic nature. The brushstrokes grew longer and became blotches that almost made objects and spatial references disappear. In 1901 he exhibited the fruit of this first Mallorcan period in a solo exhibition at the Sala Parés in Barcelona, and again won a second medal at the National Exhibition. In 1907 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona. From then on, settled in Camp de Tarragona, he did not move away from the landscape genre, but now it was the surrounding villages that were the protagonists of his painting. Est: €5,000 - €5,500

JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Still life". Oil on canvas. Attached certificate issued by Don Joan Campamà. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 73 x 88 cm; 79,5 x 97,5 cm (frame). In this scene Mir departs from the tradition of the genre of the still life inspired by examples of the baroque. For this purpose, he uses an austere wooden board as the base of the still life, without covering it with a tablecloth and without showing the scene in its entirety as was usual in the Baroque period. Based on a classical triangular composition, the artist created this still life consisting of a rabbit, vegetables and pots and pans, the latter captured frontally in such a way as to reduce the background almost to the foreground, limiting the space and thus giving greater prominence to the main elements of the scene. The qualities and diversity offered by the scene indicate the artistic quality of the painter, who resolves the image with fluid brushstrokes, giving priority to a composition based on the use of colour, which serves as a modeller of the volume and brings a traditional scene closer to a contemporary aesthetic language. Joaquim Mir studied at the Escola de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona and in the studio of the painter Luis Graner. He soon felt uncomfortable with the official teaching, which was anchored in a conception of realist painting, and so in 1893 he founded the "Colla del Safrà" (Safrà Group) with other colleagues to explore together the pictorial initiatives of the end of the century. JOAQUÍN MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Quincallería". Oil on panel. Signed in the lower left corner. Enclosed certificate issued by Joan Campamà Tubau. Measurements: 24 x 19 cm. Joaquim Mir studied in the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi of Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. His style was also influenced by the School of Olot, his father's city of origin. He soon felt uncomfortable with the official teaching, which was anchored in a conception of realist painting, and so in 1893 he founded the "Colla del Safrà" (Safrà Group) with other colleagues (Nonell, Canals, Pichot, Vallmitjana and Gual) to explore together the pictorial initiatives of the end of the century. In 1896 they even took part as a group in the 3rd Exhibition of Fine Arts and Artistic Industries, to which Mir presented two works that give us a clear idea of the group's ideals: "La huerta del rector" ("The Rector's Vegetable Garden") and "El vendedor de naranjas" ("The Orange Seller"). Also, from 1897 he frequented the artistic environment of "Els Quatre Gats", where all the artists who were familiar with the European avant-garde met, which helped him to mature in the compositional study of landscapes with figures in different planes of depth. From this period are "Slopes of Montjuic" (1897) and "The Cathedral of the Poor" (1898), the two masterpieces of his youth. From then on the artist deployed a whole combination of impossible colours, the result of his personal interpretation of the island's majestic nature. The brushstrokes grew longer and became blotches that almost made objects and spatial references disappear. In 1901 he exhibited the fruit of this first Mallorcan period in a solo exhibition at the Sala Parés in Barcelona, and again won a second medal at the National Exhibition. After a period of illness that forced him to move to Reus, in 1907 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona. From then on, settled in Camp de Tarragona, he never moved away from the landscape genre, but now it was the villages of the surrounding area that were the protagonists of his painting. The following year he won the medal of honour at the National Exhibition in Madrid, a prize he had been after since 1922. JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940). "Landscape. Pencil on paper. With testamentary stamp in the lower right corner. Certified on the back by Josep Mir Estalella, son of the artist. With stains and traces of adhesive. Measurements: 13 x 19 cm; 30 x 36 cm (frame). Joaquim Mir studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Jordi in Barcelona and in the workshop of the painter Luis Graner. He gained definitive national recognition in 1917, when he was awarded the National Prize for Fine Arts. In 1929 he won the first medal at the International Exhibition in Barcelona. The following year he won the medal of honour at the National Exhibition in Madrid, a prize he had been pursuing since 1922. Although he was mainly a native painter, he held solo and group exhibitions in Washington, Paris, Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Venice. Mir is today considered the foremost representative of Spanish Post-Impressionist landscape painting. His work can be found in the Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña, the Museo del Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, among many others.
