        Tanasko Milovich (Yugoslavian/American; 1900 - 1964) Lot of two works Batik on cloth c. 1930. St. Louis Artist's Guild Exhibition sticker verso. Born in Yugoslavia, Tanasko Milovich emigrated to St. Louis in 1914. He studied at the Washington University of Fine Arts between 1921 and 1926, continuing his studies in Paris at L'Academie Collarossi and L'Academie Moderne with Jean Marchand. In 1928, he was honored at the Paris Spring Salon for design in batik. Milovich returned to St. Louis in 1929 and taught batik at the Washington University School of Fine Arts. He remained a faculty member for 21 years. In 1950 he was appointed by the mayor to the St. Louis Art Commission. He was also a member of the St. Louis Artist's Guild, Group 15, and the Society of Independent Artists.         36" x 28", signed and dated, original frame. Milovich studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Art and in Paris, with Jean Marechal. He was a member of the St. Louis Artist Guild and the St. Louis Society of Independent Artists. He exhibited extensively during the 1920s-40s, at the Salon d' Automne, Denver Art Museum, Milwaukee Art Institute, Kansas City Art Institute, and the Spring Salon, Paris. Milovich painted oils and designed batiks (fabric). He taught at the St. Louis School of Fine Art. This is an excellent, early example of the artist's work.
