Sultan, 42nd Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American Paintings, Washington, D.C., pp.18, 52,53. Michael Miller's paintings are neither abstract nor representational. Here he paints blue and yellow horizontal stripes that appear to be a backdrop for the flowers and arabesque shapes. The horizontal lines are not quite straight or consistent, and the shapes randomly appear in clusters across the composition. Avoiding any formal resolution or conclusion, the shapes and bright hues clash against one another. Miller is represented in numerous private collections as well as the permanent collection of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.
