      RICHARD MILETTE (1960 - ) MONDRIAN clay, 3.5" x 8.25" x 8.25" -- 8.9 x 21 x 21 cm., incised signature and dated 1988 Provenance: Galerie Barbara Silverberg, Montreal, QC Note: RICHARD MILETTE (1960 - ) Quebec ceramist Richard Milette is a a graduate of Cégep du Vieux Montreal and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (BFA). He has taught in the ceramic department of Cégep du Vieux Montreal and has exhibited in Canada and U.S since 1982, with solo exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and Long Beach. A rigorous conceptual approach characterizes his work, distinguished by a remarkable technical mastery. Milette has had a strong connection with fellow Quebec ceramic artists Léopold L. Foulem and Paul Mathieu, both on an artistic and personal. Foulem was the teacher and mentor to Mathieu and Milette. They are all fluent in all styles of ceramics, from classical to Baroque to modern and kitsch, and each circumvents the functionality of ceramics while taking the form of domestic objects. Milette's ceramics are found in several private and public collections such as the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Gardiner Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, as well as numerous museums in the United States.
