        George van der Mijn, Portrait of a Young Lady in a Silk Dress Signed lower right: J.Van der MynGeorge van der Mijn was the youngest of the six sons of the Dutch still life and portrait painter Hermann van der Mijn, who was court painter for Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz in Düsseldorf from 1716 to 1721. His son George was born shortly after his arrival in London in 1721. George van der Mijn moved to Amsterdam after completing his apprenticeship as a painter, and was accepted as a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1753. A signed painting of a woman in a similarly unusual pose dated 1748 was kept in the collection of the Duke of Beaufort (auctioned in London 15./16.12.1983, no. 183). 57 x 49 cm
