            Feb. 07, 2014

            1 bottle 1991 Château Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

            Est: €290 - €360

One bottle of Château Mouton-Rothschild 1991 vintage Pauillac Label design by Setsuko Migishi (1905-1999) Original filling quantity: 0.75 l Fill level: base of neck Wine Spectator: 89/100 (1994) This lot comprises one bottle (0.75 l) of 1991 vintage Château Mouton-Rothschild from the Pauillac appellation. The label was designed by Japanese artist Setsuko Migishi (1905-1999). 1991 is one of the Bordeaux vintages that are too often underrated. Even though 1991 is not a top vintage, it is full of surprises and wines from the best estates in particular, such as Château Mouton-Rothschild, prove to be exceptionally good today. The only way to find out is to taste it yourself! The 1991 vintage Mouton-Rothschild was awarded 89 points in Wine Spectator in 1994. The fill level is excellent (base of neck), especially given the age of the wine. The label and capsule are in perfect condition. Château Mouton-Rothschild Château Mouton-Rothschild in Pauillac near Bordeaux is one of the most famous wine-growing estates in the world and is still privately owned by the Rothschild banking family. Today's estate is the legacy of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who acquired it on October 22, 1922, when he was still a young man. By striving for excellence and constantly searching for new methods, he consistently improved the quality of the Château's output. His first innovation was to bottle the wine on the estate in order to determine all stages of production: "Mise en Bouteille au Château". His efforts were finally rewarded in 1973, when Château Mouton-Rothschild was reclassified from Deuxième to Premier Cru (first growth) - the only change to have been made in the history of the official classification. Mouton has 82 hectares of vineyard area, made up of 77 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 12 % Merlot, 9 % Cabernet Franc and 2 % Petit Verdot. Château Mouton-Rothschild lies on a slope that is thirty metres high in places. On this slope, a layer of more than eight metres of gravel lies on a calciferous base, coming from alluvial deposits from the nearby Gironde, in the Pyrenees, towards the end of the Beestonian stage. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety grows splendidly on this soil.
