    Jules MICHELIN (French, 1815-1870): "Calling Card Theodore Michelin" / "Carte de Visite pour Theodore Michelin" (French title). Etching on wove paper, 1862. Reference: Beraldi 17. Signed in the plate. Plate size: 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. WE ADD BY THE SAME ARTIST: "Of a Sad Evening" / "Soir Triste" (original French title). Etching and drypoint on laid paper, 1861-62. Reference: listed by some as appearing in Beraldi, possibly as part of a poetry book by Edmond Roche. We were not able to identify this plate in Beralidi. See NYPL and BMA collections for further reference. Signed in the plate. Plate size: 2 3/4 x 4 5/8 inches.

    MICHELIN Jules (1817-1870). Louis-Philippe, roi des Français (1773-1850). Médaillon pendentif, de forme ovale, signé « Michelin J », représentant le souverain de profil, la tête tournée vers la droite, sculptée dans une météorite, comme le précise l’inscription historique gravée au revers : « Astéroïde tombé à l’Aigle, le 26 avril 1823 – Le 29 juillet 1830, la fureur des passions allait tout embraser. Le ciel nous l’envoya. Il sut tout apaiser ». Serti dans un entourage en or finement ciselé d’une frise de feuilles d’acanthe. Poinçon : tête d’aigle. H. : 5,5 cm – L. : 4,5 cm. Poids brut : 42 g. Historique : le mardi 26 avril 1803 tombe dans la région de Laigle près de 3 000 fragments d’une météorite. Ce médaillon fut réalisé lors de la vingtième année anniversaire suivant la chute de la météorite avant d’être offert au roi Louis-Philippe (1773-1850) ; le jour de son accession au trône de France. Ce médaillon fut ensuite conservé dans la descendance directe du souverain. Provenance : Louis-Philippe, roi des Français, puis par héritage dans la descendance du prince Henri de France, comte de Paris (1908-1999).
