Duane MICHALS (1932-) There was something between them ... The Vendome Press publia l’édition américaine : Man to Man : A History of Gay Photography. Jonathan Cape Ltd fit sienne l’édition anglaise : Men for Men. From the mid-1960s onwards, he created his photo sequences in which he depicted events and encounters that revolved around the subjects of sexuality, desire, love, death and violence. With usually two "actors", he stages human actions and interactions that do not follow a stringent narrative and thus allow for a variety of readings. "Man to Man" shows an interplay of submissive behaviour and dominance between two men, which is reflected in the dynamics of the individual scenes as well as in the contrast of nudity and a coat as the main prop.
