Petrov Dimensions: 42.5 x 62.5 cm Frame: 56 x 75 cm Atmospheric seascape from the late artistic period of Arseny Meshersky; similar motifs have already fetched up to €138,000 in the international auction market Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 24,000 Euro Condition: The paint surface reveals wide areas of retouching to the sky, as well as to the ships and especially to the lower left edge; here, the signature and the date seem to have been outlined. The work has also an evenly spread craquelure. The stretcher measures 42.5 x 62.5 cm and the frame 56 x 75 cm. Arseny Meshersky (1834-1902) Meshersky studied at the art academy in St. Petersburg from 1854 to 1857, when his artistic talent was already honored with first awards. In 1857 he spent two years in Switzerland to deepen his artistic training under Alexandre Calame (1810-1864). From 1859 he frequently travelled through Europe, sometimes for more than one year. In 1867 he was even asked to accompany the Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich on his world tour. Meshersky was finally appointed professor of the art academy in St. Petersburg.       Arseny Ivanovitch Meshersky (1834 Vishnievolotsk - 1902 St. Petersburg) Waldlandschaft mit Reisigsammlerin Stimmungsvolle, teilw. pastos gemalte Landschaftsimpression mit der Darstellung eines frühherbstlichen, dichten Laubwaldes. Meshersky studierte 1854-1857 an der Akademie in St. Petersburg und wurde schon während des Studiums für seine Landschaften ausgezeichnet. 1857-1859 ging Meshersky in der Schweiz, um bei sich bei Alexander Calame weiterzubilden. 1859 erhielt er eine Goldmedaille auf der Akademie-Ausstellung; Meshersky unternahm seitdem eine Vielzahl von teilw. mehrjährigen Studienreisen durch weite Teile Europas, 1867 begleitete er den Großfürsten Alexei Alexandrowitsch auf Weltreise. 1876 wurde er zum Professor an der Akademie ernannt.
