      Katherine Merrill (American, 1876 - 1962), "Poissonniere Quimper," etching on paper, signed lower right and titled at lower left, measures 5.75 x 7.75 inches to the plate mark, overall 13 x 14.50 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, matt with a few stains. Known as a painter in the Impressionist style, as well as an etcher, Katherine Merrill was born 1876 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago; New York Art Student League; as well as with Frederick Richardson, John Vanderpoel, William H. Low, Frank Duveneck, Albert Herter, William Merritt Chase, and in London with Frank Brangwyn.

      2 Antique Prints,Forest & Fisherman, signed Merrill &Vosworthy. The Forest Etching by Katherine Merrill (1876-1962) is in a wooden frame, matted in cream, and signed in pencil lower right. The fisherman mezzotint, titled "Clyde Fishers" lower left and signed lower right in pencil, is by Lenny Vosworthy and in a bronze colored wooden frame. Label on the back is from David Bendann's Art Room Baltimore, and reads "Signed Artist Proof, Edition Limited". Dimensions are (forest)12.75 in h x 16.75 in w x .5 in d and (fisherman) 13 in h x 17 in w x .5 in d. Condition is good with scratches on frame (forest) and spotting on mat (fisherman). (image size) and 10.5-in x 16-in. (sheet size). Image is in VG/VG+ condition with very minor foxing. If lot is absent of a condition report one may be requested via email. Condition report is provided as an opinion only and is no guarantee as grading can be subjective.       Katharine Merrill (also Katherine Merrill) was a painter, etcher, and art teacher who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and died in Sarasota, Florida. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a pupil of William Chase Merritt, and her paintings and etchings had an impressionist style to them. When she lived in Florida, she became President of Sarasota’s Artists Association. The etching here is titled “The Warders, Chartres” and was probably done in the 1930’s. It depicts two robed figures in the arched doorway of the cathedral at Chartres in Paris. It is titled in the lower left margin and signed in pencil in the lower right margin. Sight: 11 x 8 in. Overall: 18 3/4 x 13 3/4 in.

      Katherine Merrill New York (1876-1962) THE PHONE monoprint, framed, signed & titled: lower right margin Dia.12 3/4" *Artist biography: Known as a painter in the Impressionist style, as well as an etcher, Katherine Merrill was born 1876 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago; New York Art Student League; as well as with Frederick Richardson, John Vanderpoel, William H. Low, Frank Duveneck, Albert Herter, William Merritt Chase, and in London with Frank Brangwyn. She was a teacher at the Art Student League in New York, and in Charleston at the South Carolina Museum of Art. She also became a prominent impressionist landscape artist in Sarasota, Florida during the 1930s, although she lived primarily in New York City. She was President of the Sarasota Artist's Association. She was a member of the Society of American Etchers; Chicago Society of Etchers; Brooklyn Society of Etchers; California Society of Etchers; and the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors. Eight of her works are in National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. In addition to numerous other museums, her work is also represented in the Newark, New Jersey Public Library; the Springfield, Illinois Public Library; and the Art Department of Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin.
