Overall Size: 24 5/8 x 34 3/8 in.  Sight Size: 23 1/2 x 33 3/4 in.  #7936    Artist Biography: Richard Merrick (1903–1986) was a notable artist from Coconut Grove, Florida, best known for his still life and landscape paintings. He received his early training at the Art Students' League in New York City and later became a prominent figure in Miami's art community. After serving in World War II, Merrick returned to the University of Miami, where he served as an associate professor and later became a full professor in the art department. His works often reflected a mystical quality, drawing from his memories rather than direct observation. Merrick was also an accomplished etcher, a member of several art societies, and participated in numerous exhibitions throughout his career, including the significant "Fifty Florida Painters" show at the Ringling Museum in 1955.
