Florian Meisenberg Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1980 -

With a subliminal and poetic visual language, Florian Meisenberg paints weightless, colorful objects that are often presented on unstretched, flag-like canvases. Usually painted with oil on untreated canvas, Meisenberg’s paintings are casually suspended from the wall or hung on small cornices, ultimately subverting their pictoriality.

Meisenberg has addressed the artificiality of the 21st century, combining digital with analog by including a giant computer cursor in the center of a canvas. In a whimsical, delicate style, he renders his subjects—ice cream cones, caricatured body parts, hats, text—and ambiguously scatters them among light backgrounds, alluding to cultural, religious, and art historical references.

Born in Berlin, Meisenberg studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf before moving to New York, where he now lives and works. While best known for his paintings, Meisenberg also works in writing, video, sound art, and performance.
