Visitation of Eastern Dignitaries before a seated Queen, 1793, oil on copper, signed 'Mr Medley', and dated 1793 to lower right verso, several areas of heat damage and blistering, 610 x 460 mm (24 x 18 ins), old gilt frame The son of a baptist minister of the same name, Samuel Medley exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1792 and 1805, initially historial and mythological subjects, but latterly more often portraits. From 1805 however he traded on the Stock Exchange, and later became one of the founders of University College, London. (1)
