Patricia McGloughlin


Born in Dublin Patricia McGloughlin was educated in Dublin, the USA and Edinburgh, leading to a career in genetics research. She took early retirement some years ago in order to concentrate on working as an artist. She had been painting for a number of years, and studied with Kenneth Webb and Clare Cryan in the Blue Door Studio. She received a Diploma in the History of European Art from University College Dublin in 1999, and also studied life drawing and painting part time in the DunLaoghaire College of Art, Design and Technology.

Patricia's main inspiration is in landscape, interpreting the mood, colour and texture of woodlands, bogs and waterways. Her great interest in things nautical also finds expression in her paintings of boats and harbours. Most of her work is carried out in oil, though she also likes the immediacy of working in mixed media on paper.

Patricia's work has been exhibited in numerous group exhibition in Dublin, in the McGilloway Gallery in Derry and in the Mall Galleries in London. She has had work accepted on many occasions for the open submission exhibitions of the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Oireachtas. She has illustrated a cookbook and her work has been used in the design of book covers.
