Löhle München" in the lower centre. Date: c. 1850 Description: The depiction follows Schwind's original of 1850 and shows some of the dwarfish figures brooding and examining in front of the big toe of the statue of the personification of Bavaria. La Légende Des Gnomes De Bavière is an original black and a white burin, after Moritz von Schwind, realized by Carl Friedrich Mayr (1823 - 1884) during the XIX century. In good conditions, except for foxings along the whole margins. Including a passepartout. The artwork represents Bavarian Gnomes struggling with what seems to be a human foot. These legendary bearded fellows were invented in Germany more than one century ago to ward off hungry rabbits and small ogres. Moritz von Schwind (1804 – 1871) was an Austrian-born German painter.
