    Philip Matthews,  British 1916-1984 -  Still life with flowers and vase on a table, c.1974;  oil on board, bears inscription on the reverse 'Philip Matthews c1974 NG', 48 x 62.5 cm (ARR)  Note:  the artist studied at the Euston Road School under William Coldstream, alongside figures such as Victor Pasmore, which can be seen is the cool tones and careful composition of this work. His work was collected by Edward Le Bas and is now in public collections including the Royal Academy of Arts.
