    Adriaen Matham (around 1599 Haarlem - 1660 The Hague) after Adriaen Pietersz van de Venne (1589 - 1662 ): Recto: a barber, Verso: rabbits and a lion, 1625, Copper engraving Technique: Copper engraving on Paper Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "A. V. Venne inve. | A. Matham sc.". Upper middle inscribed in the printing plate: "A barbe de fol on apprent à raire". Verso further inscription: "Mortuo leoni etiam lepores insultant". Date: 1625 Description: A hairdresser holds up a mirror for a customer to look at himself. The customer twirls his moustache. On the floor are bowls, cut hair and a broom without a style. In the depiction on the reverse side, five rabbits are devouring a lion that is lying motionless on the ground, but is alive.
