    CAROLYN CAMPBELL MASE (American, d. 1948) IMPRESSIONIST HARBOR VIEW and a PASTEL LANDSCAPE oil on canvas and pastel on paper (2 works); Harbor View, oil on canvas, 25 1/2 x 30 inches; Trees in a Landscape, signed Mase, l.l., pastel on paper, sight: 18 1/2 x 23 1/2 inches Provenance: Property from a Cambridge Estate Other Notes: Carolyn Mase, a native of Fishkill, New York, travelled to France to study painting shortly after finishing school. It was there that she was influenced by the Impressionists of the day: Renoir, Manet and Monet. Her work was exhibited numerous times from 1900 - 1939 with her friends and contemporaries Childe Hassam, John Henry Twachman and Frederick Frieske. Mase was known for her enthusiastic champion of women's suffrage. "I stand for beauty and aristocracy in nature," Mase once remarked. Her friends claim that this beauty she sought was reflected in her paintings.
