Tanaka Masaaki was born in 1947 into a family of artists in Setagaya, Tokyo. In 1971 he graduated from the oil painting department of the famous Musashino Art College. After his graduation he worked as an assistant instructor at Musashino College for two years. During this period the artist learned the different techniques of printmaking like woodblock, lithograph, steel engraving and silkscreen printing. In 1971 Tanaka Masaaki attended the prestigious annual CWAJ Print Show for the first time.

In the following years the artist built up an international reputation with exhibitions worldwide.
Technique

Masaaki Tanaka's preferred printmaking is silkscreen. His print works are published as limited editions, signed and numbered. The edition size is typically around 100. One of the outstanding subjects of the artist are Japanese festivals.
