Maryan Pinchas Burstein, genannt Maryan, 1927 Nowy Sacz – 1977 New York PAYSAGE A1 Öl auf Leinwand. 114 x 146 cm. Rechts unten signiert und datiert „Maryan 56“. Der in Polen geborene Künstler überlebte als einziges Mitglied seiner Familie Auschwitz und siedelte nach seiner Befreiung nach Jerusalem über, wo er zunächst Grafik studierte. 1950 setzte er seine Ausbildung an der École des Beaux-Arts in Paris fort und ließ sich 1962 in New York nieder. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist somit noch vor seiner Übersiedelung nach Amerika in Paris entstanden. In breiten dunklen Pinselstrichen hat Maryan eine Landschaft vor den hellen Fond gesetzt, deren Formen und Farben sein Innerstes widerzuspiegeln und gegen das dumpfe Hell des Untergrundes zu drängen scheinen.
