  • Patrick Martinez American, b. 1980 Buy Now, Cry Later, 2013
    May. 13, 2014

Patrick Martinez American, b. 1980 Buy Now, Cry Later, 2013

    Est: $5,000 - $7,000

Patrick Martinez American, b. 1980 Buy Now, Cry Later, 2013 Neon 46 1/4 x 40 inches (117.47 x 101.6 cm) The artwork of Patrick Martinez is the latest chapter in Los Angeles' history of Modernism. Beginning with the Ferus Gallery and extending through Von Dutch's Kustom Kulture, Underground Comix, Hip-Hop, Hardcore Punk, Robert Williams and the Lowbrow movement, and Ed Ruscha's text-based art, Martinez' artwork embodies the look, feel and attitude of Los Angeles' grit, aggression and irreverence. Reflecting on his heritage which includes Native American, Filipino and Mexican ancestry, Martinez' neon art takes the Pop recontextualization of Warhol, Lichtenstein and Wesselmann to the bodegas and auto body shops of his native Los Angeles.
