          WORLD WAR II PHOTOS AND CAPTURED DOCUMENTS OF NAVY MEDIC MARTIN F. SCHMIDT A large collection of photographs, documents and ephemera kept in a bound scrap album by naval medic, Martin F. Schmidt of Detroit, Michigan. Of particular interest are four captured documents captured from the Japanese after the liberation of Guam. The documents, typed American memorandums from 1936 to 1939 that had been reused by the Japanese during their occupation of the island bearing extensive writing in Japanese on the recto and versos. The documents include a page from the island's military newspaper, The Guam Eagle. Also of interest numerous candid snap shots of American G.I.'s in action on Saipan including images of soldiers and tanks firing flame-throwers and dead Japanese soldiers. The album also includes images from Guam. Other ephemera include a confidential planning map for the invasion of Guam. The captured Japanese documents bear the expected wear including folds and marginal chips, the photographs are still quite clean, overall very good condition.
