Cette curieuse affiche que l'on pourrait croire être deux non coupées n'est en réalité qu'une seule. Elle fait la promotion du marchand d'estampes Sagot en montrant deux femmes. L'une symbolisant la contemplation, l'autre la lecture. On reconnaît dans cette affiche l'influence de Lautrec et de l'Art Nouveau. The play was originally written for Sarah Bernhardt by Edmond Rostand in 1897; the Biblical drama adapted from the gospel story of the woman of Samaria was an important part of Bernhardt's repertoire. Here, both posterist and actress pay homage to the original. Rare! (Art Nouveau; Theatre)

"La Danse: 10 Bois Originaux en Couleurs de G. Marie" 10 handkolorierte Farbholzschnitte auf dünnem Papier, an den Ecken jeweils orig. auf festen Unterlagekarton aufgelegt. Lose in Orig.-Halbleinenmappe. Um 1900. 48,8 x 36,2 cm. Sämtliche Blatt sowie die Mappe signiert "G. Marie" und betitelt. Auflage 10 num. Ex. Über das Leben und Schaffen des um die Jahrhundertwende lebenden Franzosen Gustave Marie ist nur wenig bekannt. Vermutlich arbeitete er zeitweise als Illustrator für die Zeitschrift "L'Art et la Scène" und schuf überwiegend Plakate und Jugendstil-Illustrationen. Die Mappe "La Danse" nimmt unter seinen heute noch bekannten Werken eine besondere Stellung ein. Gustave Marie widmete sich hier der künstlerischen Erfassung von Tanzstilen. In zehn sorgfältig handkolorierten Holzschnitten sind unterschiedliche Tänzerinnen dargestellt, jedes Blatt beschriftete der Künstler in der unteren linken Blattecke mit dem Namen des abgebildeten Tanzes. So enthält die Mappe von stilvollen Damentänzen bis hin zu wenig bekleideten Tänzerinnen ein breit gefächertes Repertoire. Auch eine Darstellung des "Chahut" ist darunter, der neben dem "Cancan" im Moulin Rouge aufgeführt wurde (vgl. Abbildung).
