        • Miniature Vienna Bronze "Joan of Arc in Prayer", around 1920
          Apr. 17, 2015

Miniature Vienna Bronze "Joan of Arc in Prayer", around 1920

          Est: €320 - €400

Bronze with iridescent golden patina, on high marble pedestal Austria, around 1920 Very fine bronze figure Unusual column pedestal After the sculpture "The prayer before the battle" by Princess Marie d'Orléans (1813-1839) Height without pedestal: 12 cm; Height with pedestal: 22.5 cm Very good condition This very fine Vienna Bronze shows Joan of Arc on a high marble column pedestal. She is shown in full armor and with her sword raised high. Still, she does appear warlike as she has crossed her arms in a humble manner in front of her breast and seems to very absorbed and heroic. She is shown praying in front of the decisive battle. The small bronze resembles the famous statue "The prayer before the battle" by the artist Princess Marie d'Orléans (1813-1839) except that the Joan of the bronze has raised her sword. The statue by Marie d'Orléans has been made around 1837 and can today be seen at the Gallery in Versailles. Due to the fact that the little bronze is presented on a high column pedestal it has something monumental around her and seems like a statue itself. This Vienna bronze is in very good condition and painted with an iridescent golden patina. The high marble pedestal is also in a very good condition. The dimensions of the bronze are: Height without pedestal: 12 cm; Height with pedestal: 22.5 cm. Vienna Bronze The Vienna Bronzes are very popular with collectors down to the present day. Created in the 19υth and 20υth Century, the bronzes show human figures, often of an exotic look, humans with animals and sometimes animals alone. The bronzes have been so popular that there had been more than 80 manufacturers only in Vienna. Since a huge amount of these bronzes has been melted during the wars, the surviving bronzes are very popular and rare. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
