Thatcher writes to her constituents regarding a flight that Miss. Mason took from New York to the United Kingdom in September 1969 and details the discussions she is having with the Board of Trade on their behalf, in part, 'It seems to me that there are 2 points to be chased up, 1 concerning help from the consulate, 2 whether, on a charter flight, a few of the passengers could be permitted on board when the charter itself was allegedly illegal. I think the real fault lies with those who organised the charter as they had already been warned, but in spite of that they had ignored both verbal and written warnings. Clearly they would have gone on ignoring them if a second exception had been made' (A.L.S., 7th November 1969), commenting on a reply from the Board of Trade, 'It throws a little more light on the consular service and the reason for the delay to which your own letter referred. I am still pursuing the second point because it looks to me as if the positioning flight was the scheduled flight under another name' (A.L.S., November 1969), 'I have had the....final reply from the Board of Trade, which, when one gets below the technicalities, seems to indicate that there is nothing further which we can do. It would seem that no application was made by the Airline to carry back their passengers...'
