GARY MANSFIELD'S WORK DEALS WITH IDENTITY INTERUPTED. HE EXPLORES THE REALITY OF PRISON, YET SEARCHES FOR A WAY TO PIECE BACK TOGETHER AN IDENTITY WHICH HAS BEEN SHATTERED, SCATTERED AND LOST.


Gary was sent to prison for 14 years for a crime he didnt commit. After enrolling in an art class while in prison he was introduced to conceptual art. It ignited something in him that he began writing to artists who sent him catalogues and books. Thus began a correspondence with artists such as Gavin Turk, Marcus Harvey, Sarah Lucas and Gary Hume.

He continued his studies in prison and began a degree, Then gave up art for 7 years until he was given a strong talking to by Tracy Emin.
