      Michel Mann (c.1589-1630). A rare, fine Nuremberg Renaissance treasure chest with concealed secret lock and later key. The box in gilt copper with four bun feet, pierced and flattened baluster-shaped edge mountings, the hinged lid with concealed lock, locking mechanism on the inner side of the lid, the top and the sides decorated with engraved figures of ladies and gentlemen, the base decorated with a mask and foliate scrolls, signed across the strap concealing the key hole, 3in.

      A gilt brass miniature casket, Nuremberg, early 17th century, from the workshops of Michel Mann (c.1589-1630), the panelled top engraved with two figures in Renaissance costume separated by a moveable central bar engraved 'Michel Man', the sides engraved with oval panels of figures in applied mounts, the interior of the lid with a lock shooting on four bolts, the base of the interior also engraved with an oval cartouche of a figure, 4.3cm high 7.3cm long 4.9cm deep EW The brothers, Michel and Conrad Mann, are recorded as working in Nuremberg and Augsburg in the late 16th century, making miniature caskets with intricate locks as well as guns.
