        Nov. 29, 2024

        ABRAHAM MANIEVICH

        Est: CHF25,000 - CHF40,000

ABRAHAM MANIEVICH (Mstislavl 1881–1942 New York) Pensées d'automne. Circa 1910. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right: Manievich. Inscribed verso in Latin and Cyrillic: Proprieté / A.H Horwatt. 96 × 104 cm. Provenance: - Collection of Artur Horvatt, Geneva, acquired in 1913 directly from the artist. - Probably Chavan collection, Geneva. - Private collection, Switzerland, and thence by descent. Exhibited: Paris 1913, Exposition Manievich, Galerie Durand-Ruel, 26.2.–15.3.1913, probably no. 33. In 1912 the ukrainien artist Abraham Manievich moved to the metropolis of Paris. Manievich had already had the opportunity to show his paintings in various exhibitions, such as at the Kunstverein München in Munich in 1907 and at the Kiev City Museum in 1909. Manievich’s important solo exhibition in February and March of 1913 at the Galerie Durand-Ruel in the centre of Paris, however, was his most important exhibition thus far and established his international reputation. The exhibition showed 75 paintings by the artist; a separate catalogue was printed with a list of all works and the reproduction of four paintings. One of the main lenders to the exhibition was a private collector from Geneva named Arthur Horvatt. He lent thirteen paintings from his collection, including this impressive autumn landscape by Manievich. The motif of the complex yet elegant tree structure, applied to the rough canvas in short, thick brushstrokes, is exemplary of the artist's best works. ------------------------------------------------- ABRAHAM MANIEVICH (Mszislau 1881–1942 New York) Pensées d'automne. Um 1910. Öl auf Leinwand. Unten rechts signiert: Manievich. Verso in Lateinisch und Kyrillisch bezeichnet: Proprieté / A.H Horwatt. 96 × 104 cm. Provenienz: - Sammlung Artur Horvatt, Genf, vor 1913 direkt beim Künstler erworben. - Wohl Sammlung Chavan, Genf.
