      Est: $150 - $250

Jacob Manguno (American/New Orleans, 1925-2017), "Litigator", 2008, oil on canvas, signed upper right, signed, titled, dated and "Vincent Mann Gallery, New Orleans, LA" label en verso, 20 in. x 16 in., framed. Note: Jacob Vincent Manguno, local art dealer and artist, was born in 1925 in the lower ninth ward of New Orleans. His interest in art led to his appointment as president of the first graduating class of the New Orleans Academy of Art in 1949. From there he pursued a career in graphic design and illustration and became known as one of the nation’s foremost corporate designers. In 1972 he opened his own gallery in the French Quarter, a perfect means to channel his pursuit of art. In 1978 the French government awarded him the L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his years of promoting French art and culture in the United States. As is evident in the painting offered here, Manguno’s works are defined by bold figures set against a simple background, each a study in balance and composition.
