      DESCRIPTION: Manes Descollines (Haitian,1936) acrylic painting on canvas depicting a scene with native figures. Signed "Manes" on the lower right bottom corner. Manes was born in Petit-Trou de Nippes in 1936 in Haiti. He was a self-taught artist from the workshop of Jaime Colson, a Dominican who was the director of the Dramatic Art Society of Haiti. He started to paint under Gerard Resil, and Dieudonne Cedor, then under Luckner Lazard in 1961. He took up ceramics under Tiga and Emmanuel Joachim. He exhibited in Haiti and abroad. Provenance: Dr. Bob Brictson Estate Lot Essay: Painter and ceramist, Manes, involved with many creative forms of expression including theater, trained with Tiga and even modeled for the renowned Dominican master JaimŽ Colson. Prior to becoming a full time artist he had worked in construction and at the Barbancourt rum factory. Manses self-taught approach to constructivism is more painterly, presenting contemplative figures whose form, and arms in particular, are the foundation for understanding their life's experiences, from the physical to existential.
