      JOSEF MANDL 1874 - 1933 - TWILIGHT

      Est: -

Josef Mandel's works are rarely found on the market. He was born into the family of Pilsen goldsmith Josef Mandl, studied at the Academy in Prague, and his work was most influenced by the symbolist expression of Max Pirner. The dramatic landscape of Twilight follows his inclination towards the current of decadence, when he noted the inevitability of transience, the glowing mourning angels in the rocks, and the landscape just presented, chosen in remote areas by the water at dusk, where the outline of a cave is drawn, is built in fading light with the expectation of a tense and haunting . A sketch of a figural study found on the back. Expert opinion by PhDr. Rey Michalová PhD. Technique: oil on canvas, Signed: signed lower right: J. Mandl

      LOVERS IN THE GARDEN

      Est: -

A poetic theme of two lovers in the Petřín gardens resting in the shade of a tree. The beautiful view of the Prague skyline is complemented by masterful work with light and a natural casual nude figure in an atmosphere of human intimacy and quiet moments of contemplation. The sunlit scene acts as a luminous and relaxed contrast in comparison with Josef Mandl's decadent scenes. Technique: Oil on canvas on cardboard, Signed: Lower right and from behind "Mandl"
