A native of Alsace, Julien Mandel was since the beginning of the 1920s a well-known photographer of art and eroticism. Mandel tried his entire life to establish photography as a genre of art. His photographs of female nudes, especially those of Alice Prin, were soon recognized objects. Mandel was also a member of the avant-garde group 'New Era Outdoors'. His classic studies were used in France as motif postcards and soon became sought after collectibles
