      (Roma, 1876 - Napoli, 1906) Ragazza che suona il mandolino Olio su tela, cm 290X192 Precocissimo ad avviare la propria carriera, Mancinelli partecipì infatti in qualità di allievo alla Biennale Borbonica del 1855 con il disegno Testa di Aiace, premiato con la medaglia d'argento. Alla Biennale del 1859 ottenne la medaglia d'oro per il dipinto la Comunione nelle catacombe (De Gubernatis). Nel 1864 vinse il concorso per il pensionato nazionale indetto dall'Istituto di belle arti di Napoli con Il Giuramento di Annibale (Napoli, Galleria dell'Accademia di belle arti). Nello stesso anno espose il dipinto I martiri delle catacombe alla Promotrice di belle arti di Napoli (Ibid., Museo di Capodimonte). Fino al 1884 partecipì assiduamente alle mostre della Società promotrice napoletana con dipinti, acquerelli e pastelli, prediligendo temi orientalisti e pompeiani, sovente quanto mai decorativi e cromaticamente felici.       GUSTAVO MANCINELLI, OIL ON CANVAS, 1877, 40" X" 29", PORTRAIT OF JULIA NEWBERRY: ITALIAN" 1842-1906: Framed. Julia Newberry was the daughter of Walter Loomis Newberry, founder of" the Newberry Library in Chicago. Signed and dated along lower left side "Gustavo Mancinelli" Roma 1877." Background: Walter Loomis Newberry" was born in East Windsor, CT in 1804, and" educated in Clinton, NY. He moved to Buffalo," NY with his brother in 1822, they then moved to" Detroit, MI and went into the dry goods business" with great success. Later he toured the great lakes with General Lewis Cass and William B. Astor, purchasing land at various points," including Chicago, where he moved in 1833. Here" he continued in dry goods, and also became" involved in banking and rail operations. For Six [6] years he was president of the Chicago Historical Society. He died in 1860. Julia was One [1] of Two [2] daughters, neither had" children. Since he had no grandchildren, Walter" Loomis Newberry's will donated half of his estate to fund the creation of a library, now" the Newberry Library in Chicago. His widow died in 1885, daughter Mary died in 1874 in southern" France and daughter Julia died in 1876 in Rome.
