KAREL MALICH 1924 - 2019 - BUBBLES SEEN IN THE SKY

        Est: -

A world-renowned sculptor, painter and printmaker, Malich studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague under Professor Vladimir Silovsky and went on to paint landscapes – initially influenced by Cubism and Expressionism, later drawn in pastel. He created reliefs and sculptures, his first sculptures made of Plexiglas, and open metal structures that addressed the dematerialization of sculpture. In his drawings from the late 1970s/early 1980s, recollections of his youth collide with his visions of light, some of which had the character of omens. By analyzing the relationships of the see-er and the seen, he has visions and discovers the inner light and penetrates layers in space and the state of existence depicted in the sculptures Inner Light and Crack in Space. In his oeuvre, the past becomes the future and vice versa. In the decades from 1986–1995 he primarily focused on pastels depicting his visions of light. He used figurative and abstract, organic and geometric forms. Malich’s approaches have become essential points in the development of contemporary Czech art. His work has been exhibited at numerous exhibitions around the world and is represented in leading private and public collections. Technique: Pastel on paper, Signed: From behind "K. Malich 1984"

        KAREL MALICH 1924 - 2019 - FIELD

        Est: -

From the expert assessment of PhDr. Rea Michalová, Ph.D.: "The assessed painting "Field" represents an excellent example of Malich's work from the "initiation" creative period, when he goes through the lessons of modern Czech landscape painting and reaches the first significant artistic gains. Confrontation of the landscape especially native Holice with the language of modern painting was the first point The traditional landscape theme is denied by a formal concept, which suggests the whole other direction of the author: the pictorial space is perceived as a combination of tightly colored plans and cubist forms (sheaves), which become the bearers autonomous sensitive and psychic contents. The assessed work "Field" can thus be understood as one of the conclusive starting points of Malich's work. " Technique: Oil, tempera, cardboard, Signed: Lower right "Malich 58"

Paspartováno, rámováno, zaskleno. V šedesátých letech začíná Karel Malich výrazně zjednodušovat osobní rukopis a vytváří monochromní reliéfy v kombinaci černé, bílé a šedé. Est: -

In the decade between 1986 and 1995, Czech sculptor and painter Karel Malich primarily focused on pastels, projecting onto paper his visions of light grounded in his intense innermost experiences and spiritual perception of reality. Starting in 1980 he developed the themes of the “See-er” and the “Seen” and cosmological themes, recording his inner visions through fields of color and light with figurative elements of hands and feet.

In the late 1960s Karel Malich started to create hanging sculptures, as their three-dimensionality allowed him to better depict courses of flowing energy. His wire oviods represented an extreme position in his work, but they also provided an inner connection to his late 1950s/early 1960s period. Wire, which formed the basis of his work throughout the 1970s, opened Malich’s path to relaxed, dematerialized sculptures that give the impression of being spontaneous drawings in space. Wire objects, usually bound with color thread, hanging or perhaps lying on the ground, frequently refer |to the idea of the energy contained in the landscape and natural phenomena. A world-renowned sculptor, painter and printmaker, Malich studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague under Professor Vladimír Silovský and went on to paint landscapes – initially influenced by Cubism and Expressionism, later drawn in pastel. He created reliefs and sculptures, his first sculptures made of Plexiglas, and open metal structures that addressed the dematerialization of sculpture. In his drawings from the late 1970s/early 1980s, recollections of his youth collide with his visions of light, some of which have |the character of omens. By analyzing the relationships of the see-er and the seen, he has visions and discovers the inner light penetrating layers in space and the state of existence depicted in the sculptures Inner Light and Crack in Space.

        LIGHT-AIR IV

        Est: -

Stainless steel wire, thread; colored white, red and black. In the late 1960s Karel Malich started to create hanging sculptures, as their three-dimensionality allowed him to better depict courses of flowing energy. His wire ovoids represented an extreme position in his work, but they also provided an inner connection to his late 1950s/early 1960s period. Wire, which formed the basis of his work throughout the 1970s, opened Malich's path to relaxed, dematerialized sculptures that gave the impression of being spontaneous drawings in space. Wire objects, usually bound with color thread, hanging or perhaps lying on the ground, frequently referred to the idea of the energy contained in the landscape and natural phenomena. A world-renowned sculptor, painter and printmaker, Malich studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Professor Vladimír Silovský and went on to paint landscapes – initially influenced by Cubism and Expressionism, later drawn in pastel. He created reliefs and sculptures, his first sculptures made of Plexiglas, and open metal structures that addressed the dematerialization of sculpture. In his drawings from the late 1970s/early 1980s, recollections of his youth collide with his visions of light, some of which had the character of omens. By analyzing the relationships of the see-er and the seen, he advanced to visions and discoveries of the inner light and to intersections of layers in space and states of existence as depicted in the sculptures Inner Light and Crack in Space. In his oeuvre, the past becomes the future and vice versa. In the decades from 1986–1995 he primarily focused on pastels depicting his visions of light. He used figurative and abstract, organic and geometric forms. Malich's approaches have become essential points in the development of contemporary Czech art. His work has been exhibited at numerous exhibitions around the world and is represented in leading private and public collections. / 1960 / Tempera on paper (dimensions in frame) / Signed and dated lower right “K. Malich 60” / 46 x 68 cm Karel Malich is one of the artists who actively contributed to the formation of the Czech postwar art scene. His creative transformation, which started in the early 1960s, is evident in this work – his slow departure from his beloved eastern Bohemian landscape of Holice, his infinite source of inspiration, and transition to the geometric city. This liberation from direct references to the outside world had already started in his White Landscapes from the late 1950s. Since then, the abstract form of Malich's work has been a synthesis of detail, sense of color and the ability to allow the atmosphere, light and configuration of what is seen to come through. This is also the case for this painting. Underpinning the central composition is a golden glade with a line rising from it; another line, in a flood of blue, cuts the picture in two. What results are references to fields that are more recognizable in Malich's younger, less geometric pictures and the small hills around Holice. Trees, houses, the entire landscape, everything gradually disintegrates into simple geometric shapes. Consulted with gallery owner Zdeněk Sklenář.
