        Ratisbona, 1854 ; Monaco di Baviera 1904 Arabo sull'asino imbizzarrito Firmato Rud Maison fec sulla base Bronzo, alt. cm 52 Rudolf Maison è un artista autodidatta che aprì il suo studio a Monaco di Baviera nel 1879: il suo stile esaspera al massimo la forma barocca, interpretandola in maniera molto personale, rompendo con gli schemi più classici e ispirandosi direttamente dalla realtà. È di un naturalismo molto pronunciato, in particolare nelle sculture di piccolo formato. La scultura in esame, dove un giovane uomo cerca di domare un asino, si distingue per la sua resa sensibile e naturalistica della fisionomia e dell'anatomia, con una modellazione straordinariamente nitida della muscolatura e dei lineamenti del volto. Alcune delle opere più monumentali dell'artista, tra cui Kaiser Federico I davanti al Bode Museum, Ottone I e due figure a cavallo, custodite nel Reichstag, non sono purtroppo sopravvissute alla seconda guerra mondiale.
