After his studies on the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. where he was teached by Mikl und Hollegha. he made a rapid ascension in the world of art. Numerous Exhibitions in Vienna. Paris or Chicago. On 1982 Gottfried Mairwöger was awarded the Otto-Mauer-Price. A number of the artist’s works are located in the public collections and museums (Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Mumok Wien. Lentos Linz etc.). The work „Untitled“is from one of the last group of works. which are made shortly before his death and which characteristic for his is late painting. as of 1995. In the late nineties. Mairwöger took up again the significant design elements of his early period and extends it. Glazing and opaque paint layers are now applied in an overlapping way. calmly or in dynamic gestures on the canvas. Gottfried Mairwöger.born in 1951 in Tragwein/Upper Austria. died in 2003 in Vienna is one of the most important representatives of the Austrian Abstraction after 1945. After his studies on the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. where he was teached by Mikl und Hollegha. he made a rapid ascension in the world of art. Numerous Exhibitions in Vienna. Paris or Chicago. On 1982 Gottfried Mairwöger was awarded the Otto-Mauer-Price. A number of the artists works are located in the public collections and museums (Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Mumok Wien. Lentos Linz etc.). The work Untitledis from one of the last group of works. which are made shortly before his death and which characteristic for his is late painting. as of 1995. In the late nineties. Mairwöger took up again the significant design elements of his early period and extends it. Glazing and opaque paint layers are now applied in an overlapping way. calmly or in dynamic gestures on the canvas.
