      Acquaforte. mm 512x424. Nel margine inferiore le attribuzioni di responsabilità: da sinistra a destra "PEINT PAR STEUBEN"; "Imprimé par Chardon Ainé."; "GRAVE' PAR MAILE.". Sotto il titolo "NAPOLEON & SON FILS." versi su due colonne: "Toux deux sont morts. Seigneur votre droite est terrible/Vous avez commencé par le maître invincible,/Par l'homme triomphant//Puis vous avez enfin complèté l'ossuaire,/Dix ans vous ont suffi pour filer le suaire/Du pére et de l'enfant.//(Victor Hugo)". L'incisione è tratta da un dipinto di Carl von Steuben esposto al Salon di Parigi nel 1841, esempio della ripresa del culto napoleonico negli anni di regno di Luigi Filippo. Il successo dell'immagine è documentato dalle molte versioni che per tutto l'Ottocento continuarono a esserne tratte; quella di George Maile, un allievo di Samuel William Reynolds attivo fino a metà secolo, fu probabilmente una delle prime riproduzioni. L'artista lavorò a Parigi dal 1824 al 1839. (1)
