Joseph Maiden Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1813 - d. 1843

Joseph Maiden was born in Bury, Lancashire. He was the son of a coachman and publican. It is thought that he was probably related to Mr Maiden who was huntsman to the Cheshire Hunt in c.1843. It is said that Maiden was probably sent by an employer of his father to study under the artist Henry Calvert of Manchester. Maiden painted sporting scenes and landscapes and made quite a name for himself despite his relatively short life. Maiden worked in both oil and watercolour.
