      GUSTAV MACOUN 1889 - 1934 - WINTER LANDSCAPE

      Est: -

Gustav Macoun was one of the painters whose desire to paint was evident from early childhood. After completing his primary education, he studied under Alois Kalvoda and Antonín Slavíček. Winter Landscape is one of his highly valued landscape records with a touch of impressionism. He painted mainly in the surroundings of Bohemian Paradise, Kamenice and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. He also managed to capture some disappearing corners of old Prague. Although he proudly claimed Antonín Slavíček, he managed to find his own expression, which perfectly captured the play of light and colours of the Czech landscape without just blindly copying the master or adding artificial sentiment to the landscape. Technique: oil on canvas, Signed: sign. lower left: G. Macoun

Gustav Macoun was one of the painters whose desire to paint showed itself from early childhood. After completing primary education, Gustav Macoun studied with Alois Kalvoda and Antonín Slavíček. He followed Antonín Slavíček all his life and painted landscapes with a touch of impressionism. GUSTAV MACOUN 1892 - 1934 - LIBUNEC

      Est: -

Gustav Macoun was one of the painters whose desire to paint manifested itself from an early age. After graduating from elementary school, he studied with Alois Kalvoda and Antonín Slavíček. He applied to Antonín Slavíček all his life and painted the landscape with a touch of impressionism. To capture the silhouette of the ruins of Trosky Castle, he chose a flowering meadow near the small village of Libunec in the Jičín district. He placed an interesting horizon shrouded in a bluish tinge in color contrast with the vital colors of the meadow full of dandelions. František Kaván, for example, also painted in the picturesque surroundings of Libunec. Technique: Oil on canvas, Signed: Lower right "G. Macoun 13"

      LANDSCAPE AT DUSK

      Est: -

Gustav Macoun was one of the painters whose desire to paint manifested itself from early childhood. After he completed his basic education, he studied with Alois Kalvoda and Antonín Slavíček. This painting of the early evening in countryside belongs to the turning point after graduation from these courses and his admission to the Academy of Fine Arts to V. Bukovac. He refered to Antonín Slavíček all his life and painted the landscape with a touch of impressionism. The early evening sky at dusk is indicated by basically only a few strokes, but in absolutely believable colors. In opposition to the thicker pastels of the clouds, the bright red poppies glow in the grass and both with the white yarrows are bathed in the evening sun. Technique: Oil on cardboard, Signed: Lower right "G Macoun"
