Maclot came to Genk for the first time in 1899 on the advice of Coosemans. He also visited Tervuren during this period. The discovery of the pristine Kempen landscape made him decide in 1910 to settle permanently in Genk. After his marriage in 1911, he had a large country house built near the beloved Molenvijver: Maison Blanche. Until his death in 1959, it would remain his residence and base for long rambles, on foot or by bicycle through the Kempen landscape. On these trips he was often accompanied by his pupils, including Willy Minders, Jac Douven and Alfons Aerts. Marthe Bamps ( 1929-2021 ), an artist from As, was also one of his students.Together with his neighbor Emile Van Doren, he was counted among the most important representatives of the so-called Genk School. Both landscape painters belonged to the third generation of artists who visited Genk, but only they made the Kempendorp their home.Work by Armand Maclot is shown in the Emile Van Doren Museum in Genk, among others.
