    Attributed to William MacLean, American, 1897 to 1977, gouache painting on paper depicting a church view. Signed lower left. Framed. Inscribed, Unitarian Church Quincy Square, Quincy Burial Place of Mass Burial John Adams and John Quincy Adams, Second and Sixth Presidents of The United States, on a paper label on the backside. William MacLean is known for Cartoonist, etcher. William MacLean attended art school in Boston. He learned to love rural life and after a New England childhood he bought a home in New Hope Pennsylvania, and settled there to live and paint. He was art editor of the American Legion's magazine Legion during the 1920s, and created the comic strip Double Trouble for King Features Syndicate. His own family-his children-and his home became his subjects. He also created etchings of New England snow scenes, and the etching Dawn portrays his own home in Winter. Other etchings show the landscape of Pennsylvania and Prince Edward Island in Canada. MacLean s works have been exhibited in major art showings throughout American including exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Salmagundi Club in New York and the Bucks Country Group at New Hope Pennsylvania.
